Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach. For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

From a sermon by Preacher Clark in May, 1970.
Men began trying to build their own way to God when God backed away from men because of their sin. And it is more sin yet for men to try to reach God any other way than the way He has ordained. Jesus said, “No man comes to the Father but by me.” Peter said, “There is no other name under heaven given unto men whereby we must be saved.” Peter said that we have access to God by one Spirit, and the attempt to reach God by any other means is just more rebellion and sin.
When we approach God the way He has prescribed, one of the things that happens is that we begin to talk to Him the way He has prescribed - “with stammering lips and another tongue”, for “he who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men but unto God.” This divinely ordained method of communication is just a part of the foolishness which “God has chosen in order to confound the wise.” It is not a form of communication that proud men will humble themselves to receive; they would rather build their own, prettier ways to God. They will mock those who come to God the way God has ordained, but it pleases God to choose the base things “and things despised” to bring to nothing the mighty things of man. And only those who, like the apostle Paul, are willing to be “fools for Christ”, will ever understand this holy truth.
