Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

The Battle

From one of Pastor John’s Old Testament classes, June 27, 2004.

There is nothing in the flesh that can save you or even participate in saving you. “In me,”, wrote Paul, “that is, in my flesh, there dwells no good thing.” In order to be saved from the coming wrath of God, we must be led by the Spirit of God instead of by the desires of the flesh. That is the battle of life, and every soul on earth is engaged in it.

The warfare of this life is to believe what the Spirit is telling you instead of following the flesh and what it tells you. This is unnatural because our nature is in our flesh, but it must be done if we are to be saved in the end. Jesus said that the vast majority of humans will lose this battle, in one parable even stating that half of those who receive the Spirit of God will follow the flesh instead of the Spirit and will be cast out of the kingdom of God in the end.

You are in a vicious battle for your soul. If you are unaware of this fact of life, that is an indication that you are losing the war, for only those who are aware of the fierceness of the battle will see their need to go to God for help.
