Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

AFRAID OF LIFE

They cling to death rather than humble themselves to God’s life, not necessarily because they want to die but because they are afraid to live. The life of God, real life, terrifies them. God calls them “sinners”, not because He hates them. On the contrary, He pities them and sent His Son to die for them. How many times did Jesus have to tell his own disciples not to be afraid!

God’s life is so good that it frightens some people. To them, the hope and blessing it promises are “too good to be true”, and they cannot believe. In their unbelief, they remain in the shadow of death and prefer that cold darkness to the warm light they see in the distance. Pray for them. They are not your enemies; they are their own enemies. Enemies of their own happiness. Enemies who fear to give in to joy. Enemies who are afraid to be loved.

There are some who are more afraid of life than of death.
