¶1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the command of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope.
2. To Timothy, my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
¶3. As I urged you to remain in Ephesus when I went to Macedonia, so do, that you might command certain ones not to teach another doctrine,
4.nor give heed to myths and endless genealogies, which things give rise to disputes rather than the order of God, which is by faith.
5. Now, the end of the commandment is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and unfeigned faith,
6.from which some have wandered, and have turned aside to empty talk,
7.desiring to be teachers of the law but understanding neither what they say nor the things they confidently assert.
8. We know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,
9.knowing this, that the law is not intended for a righteous man but for the lawless and rebellious, for the irreverent and sinful, for the unholy and worldly, for patricides and matricides, for murderers,
10.fornicators, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,
11.according to the glorious gospel of our blessed God, with which I am entrusted.
¶12. I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he counted me trustworthy, putting me into his service,
13.who once was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and a violent man, but I received mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief.
14. But the grace of our Lord abounded, with the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.
15. This saying is true, and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – among whom I am the worst,
16.but I was shown mercy for this reason, that in me, as the worst of sinners, Jesus Christ might demonstrate utmost patience, as an example for those who afterward would believe in him for eternal life.
17. Now, to the King of the Aeons, immortal, invisible – the only wise God – be honor and glory forever and ever! Amen.
¶18. This instruction I entrust to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which were previously made regarding you, so that by them you might fight the good fight,
19.holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some putting aside, have made shipwreck of their faith,
20.among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have turned over to Satan, that they may be taught not to blaspheme.
¶1. Now then, first, I exhort that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all men,
2.for kings and for all who are in authority, that we might lead a tranquil and well-ordered life in all godliness and dignity.
3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4.who desires that all men be rescued, and come to a full knowledge of the truth.
5. There is one God, and one mediator between God and men – the man Christ Jesus,
6.who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony in the appointed time,
7.for which cause I was ordained a preacher, an apostle – I am speaking the truth in Christ! I am not lying! – a faithful and true teacher of Gentiles.
¶8. So then, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and argument.
9. Likewise, I would also that the women adorn themselves with appropriate clothing, with modesty and prudence, not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or expensive clothing,
10.but with what is appropriate to women professing godliness: good works.
11. Let a woman learn quietly, in all submissiveness.
12. I do not allow a woman to teach or to domineer over a man, but to be in order.
13. For Adam was formed first, then Eve,
14.and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, being deceived, fell into transgression.
15. Nevertheless, she will be saved through childbearing if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with self-control.
¶1. The saying is true: If someone aspires to be an overseer, he desires a good work.
2. An overseer, therefore, must be irreproachable, the husband of one wife, temperate, reasonable, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3.not given to wine, not pugnacious, not avaricious, but magnanimous, peaceable, without the love of money,
4.governing his own house well, having children in subjection with all gravity.
5. (If someone does not know how to govern his own house, how will he take care of the Assembly of God?)
6. He must not be a new convert, lest, becoming conceited, he fall into the condemnation of the Slanderer.
7. He must also have a good testimony from those on the outside, lest he fall into reproach and a snare of the Slanderer.
8. Their assistants, likewise, must be sober-minded, not double-tongued, not giving themselves to much wine, not avaricious,
9.holding the mystery of the faith in a clear conscience.
10. These also must first be tested. Then let them serve, being above reproach.
11. Their wives, likewise, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
12. Assistants are to be husbands of one wife, governing their own children and houses well.
13. For those who have served well earn for themselves good standing and much boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
¶14. I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you soon,
15.but in case I am delayed, I write them so that you might know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the Assembly of the living God, the pillar and the foundation of the truth.
16. Now, undeniably, the mystery of godliness is great: God was made manifest in the flesh, was justified by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the Gentiles, was believed on in the world, and was taken up into glory.
¶1. Now, the Spirit is saying explicitly that in the latter times, some will fall away from the faith, following after deceptive spirits and doctrines of demons,
2.speaking lies in hypocrisy, their conscience seared with a hot iron,
3.forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and understand the truth.
4. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused when received with thanksgiving,
5.for it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer.
¶6. In teaching these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Jesus Christ, brought up in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have faithfully followed.
7. Have nothing to do with worthless fables such as old women tell, but train yourself for godliness,
8.for bodily exercise is beneficial for a few things, but godliness is beneficial for everything, holding promise for this present life as well as for the life to come.
9. This saying is true, and worthy of all acceptance.
10. For this we both labor and are ridiculed, because we have put our hope in a living God, who is Savior of all men, especially believers.
11. Command and teach these things.
12. Let no one despise your youth; on the contrary, be an example for believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13. Until I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the elders’ hands.
15. Meditate on these things; immerse yourself in them so that your progress may be manifest to all men.
16. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in these things; for in doing this, you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
¶1. Do not rebuke an elder, but entreat him as a father; the young men, as brothers;
2.older women, as mothers; younger women, as sisters, with all purity.
3. Honor widows who truly are widows.
4. If any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to practice godliness in their own house and make recompense to their parents, for this is acceptable before God.
5. She who is truly a widow, and is left alone, has put her hope in God, and she continues in supplications and prayers, night and day.
6. But the one who lives in self-indulgence is dead while she lives.
7. Insist on these things, that they may be above reproach.
8. If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
9. Let not a widow be enrolled if she is less than sixty years old; having been the wife of one man;
10.spoken well of for good works; if she has nurtured children; if she has demonstrated hospitality; if she has washed the saints’ feet; if she has helped the oppressed; if she has diligently followed after every good work.
11. But refuse younger widows. For when their life of ease draws them away from Christ, they want to marry,
12.having condemnation because they have broken their previous pledge.
13. Besides that, they learn to be idle, going about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and meddlers, saying things they should not.
14. Therefore, I want younger women to marry, to bear children, to take care of the home, to give no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15. For some have already turned aside after Satan.
16. If any believing man or woman has widows, let that person help them, that the Assembly be not burdened so that it may relieve those who truly are widows.
¶17. Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in word and in doctrine.
18. For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “The worker is worthy of his pay.”
19. Do not receive an accusation against an elder, except in the presence[1] of two or three witnesses.
20. Reprove before everyone those who are sinning so that the rest also may fear.
21. I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing through partiality.
22. Lay hands on no one hastily; neither be a partaker of the sins of others; keep yourself pure!
23. Do not keep on drinking water, but use a little wine for your stomach and your frequent ailments.
24. The sins of some men are known beforehand, going on ahead to Judgment, but the sins of some men follow behind.
25. Likewise, also, the good works of some are known beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot remain hidden.
¶1. Let as many slaves as are under the yoke regard their masters as worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine not be blasphemed.
2. Those who have believing masters are not to think evil of them, for they are brothers; on the contrary, they are to slave for them all the more because those who receive the benefit of their good service are believers and beloved. These things teach and exhort.
¶3. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not give heed to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
4.he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but merely has a morbid craving for controversies and word-battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil conjectures,
5.incessant wranglings from the mind of men ruined and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of gain. Stay away from such men.
6. But godliness with contentment is an exceptional means of gain.
7. For we brought nothing into the world, and it is obvious that we can take nothing out.
8. So, having sustenance and clothing, let us be content with them.
9. Those who want to be rich fall into temptation, and a snare, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.
10. For the love of money is a root of all evils, for which some, craving after, have been led away from the faith and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
¶11. But you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12. Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold on eternal life, for which you were called and have made the good confession before many witnesses.
13. Before God, who gives life to all things, and Christ Jesus, who made the good confession before Pontius Pilate, I charge you
14.that you keep this commandment without blemish, free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15.which at its appointed time will show who is the blessed and only sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16.who alone is immortal, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and power forever! Amen.
¶17. Command those who are rich in this world not to be haughty, nor to put hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God who has richly given us all things to enjoy,
18.to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, sharing freely,
19.laying up for themselves a good foundation for what is coming, that they may receive eternal life.
¶20. O Timothy, guard the deposit; avoid the worthless, empty talk, and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge,
21.which by professing, some have deviated from the faith.
