Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

THE PATH TO PEACE

From a message to the saints on 3-19-03 by Pastor John.

Verse(s)

The Scripture

The Point

1 Peter 3:10-11

"For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it."

If you want to live forever, you must seek the way of peace.

1 Cor. 6:5-9

"I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather [suffer yourselves to] be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that [your] brethren. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?"

If ever you are hurt by another, it is better to endure the wrong patiently than to fight back or to let that wrong-doing rob you of the peace you have from God.

You don't have to be afraid that you will make wrong decisions.

If you diligently seek to do good, God will guide you!

Proverbs 11:3

"The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them."

Don't be concerned with whether or not you will be saved in the end. Rather, simply be upright today. If you do that, God's integrity will guide you to peace.

Proverbs 11:5

"The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness."

There is no peace in worrying about which road to take. Be good, and God will show you the good way. Do evil, and the evil you do will return to crush you.

Proverbs 11:6

"The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in [their own] naughtiness."

Righteousness leads you away from trouble and into peace, but the sin of sinners ruins their lives.

Proverbs 16:3

"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established."

You don't know what to think? Commit your works to God, and He will think for you!

Proverbs 12:5

"The thoughts of the righteous [are] right: [but] the counsels of the wicked [are] deceit."

If you are righteous, you will always be thinking right thoughts.

Proverbs 24:9

"The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men."

Foolishness confuses a person so that everything he thinks is sinful.

Proverbs 4:18-19

"But the path of the just [is] as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked [is] as darkness: they know not at what they stumble."

The path of the just gets more right every time he does another right thing. Light, or understanding, is God's reward to us for our obedience to Him.

Psalms 37:23

"The steps of a [good] man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way."

The next step you take is determined by God. Be good, so your steps will lead to peace.

Judges 9:23

"Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:"

A wicked man takes wicked steps, and if he is stubbornly sinful, God can make a wicked man more wicked than he planned to be.

Proverbs 3:6

"In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Honor God, and He will direct your steps toward a life of peace.

Philippians 4:8

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things."

Think on good things. Don't be distracted by this world's thinking. Satan is the one confused, not you who trust in Jesus. Satan doesn't even know where you are until you start acting like him!

Proverbs 14:12

"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death."

You will always go the way that "seems" right to you. Which way do you want? The way that seems right and is right, or the way that seems right and is not?

Proverbs 11:2

"[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom."

Humility brings us into wisdom, and wisdom knows the way of peace.

Proverbs 16:18

"Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

Pride forgets what God has done. Remember the mercy of God. That makes the difference between stumbling into trouble or walking on down the road of peacefulness.

Proverbs 10:22

"The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it."

The holy Ghost, God's blessing, makes us rich, and there is no "small print". God's Spirit is altogether good.

Isaiah 57:21

"There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked."

Wicked people may have riches and fame. They may live long lives in good health. They may be talented and clever. They usually have, as well, the admiration of fools. But God does not allow them ever to know what it feels like to have real peace.

Psalms 26

[A Psalm] of David.

"Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in mine integrity. I have trusted also in the Lord; [therefore], I shall not slide. Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy loving kindness [is] before mine eyes, and I have walked in thy truth. I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. I will wash mine hands in innocency; so will I compass thine altar, O Lord, that I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.

Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men, in whose hands [is] mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes. But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity.

Redeem me, and be merciful unto me. My foot standeth in an even place. In the congregations will I bless the Lord."
