Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate.  Therefore, let us go forth to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.  For we have no continuing city here, but we seek one to come.

What A Cult Is

Not long after he discovered the body of saints that meet in my house, Brother Sammy was warned by a co-worker that he had become involved in a cult. Brother Sammy told the man that a cult is whatever is not this. When I heard of that conversation, I was encouraged in the Lord. I knew it was right, but I didn’t fully understand why it was true.

Not long afterward, another brother, Jim, learned the truth and began attending the meetings at my house. Some of Jim’s relatives, angered because he left their traditional church, also accused Jim of becoming a cult member. Jim decided to look up “cult” in a dictionary to see if it was true. The next time we all gathered for a prayer meeting, he testified about his search for the real meaning of “cult”. What he discovered was that he had become a part of the only thing he knew of that could not be a cult, for a cult, according to the dictionary, is defined in large measure by rites and ceremonies, and we have none.
